Abstract

Aligner in growing patients: how, when and why

by Garino Francesco

Aligners in orthodontics was born in the first years 2000 as alternative to traditional fixed orthodontic appliances. In the last years, the use of them has been extended , as first in mature teenagers in permanent dentition, mixed and then in small patients in early mixed dentition. During his talk, Dr Garino will present which are the current clinical and scientific evidence in the use of aligners in growing patients, which are the strong points and which are the challenges in the use of them. It will be highlighted the importance of the orthodontic diagnosis and virtual planning, such as the critical evaluation of the 3D virtual plan. The speaker will present some of the most frequent clinical situations in which aligners can be used with success as alternative to conventional appliances, keeping in mind that the use of aligners in growing patients has a shorter history if compared with traditional ones, but with potential large margin of growth due to evolution of materials, protocols and knowledge by clinicians. Last but not least will be taken in account the importance of the compliance in these types of treatment in which the use of aligners , such as in adults, has to be constant in time.
